Summer Internship Opportunities with Local Public Health Departments
Attention!!!
........ Please note that our application period is now closed for 2006.
Each summer, AHEC sponsors two Community Health Internship Programs (CHIP) for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in public health. The Statewide CHIP serves counties outside the southeast corner of the state, while the Milwaukee program provides internship opportunities specifically in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, and Walworth counties.
The Statewide and Milwaukee programs are similar in that they both link students with local health departments (as well as other health and human service organizations) to work on a variety of public health projects. The Milwaukee program runs for 6 weeks (with interns receiving a $2,000 stipend) while the Statewide program runs for 8 weeks (with interns receiving a $2,400 stipend).
AHEC provides initial training and orientation for interns and also supplements on-site learning with seminars led by respected experts from both academic and practice arenas. Site mentors provide technical support and assistance and facilitate shadowing opportunities to help interns gain an understanding and appreciation of the broad range of public health activities undertaken at the local level.
